first day

Today we went to kairos for the first time, I was very apprehensive and didn't know what to think.
My first thought was going to be a big group of people walking round in white clothes but straight away my judgement was broken to be faced with friendly faces and instantly being mad to feel comfortable and to feel at home.

The first person we talked to was mossy who was basically described as "the face" of kairos and instantly I could see that. Before meeting anyone we were briefed in the main hall about what kairos was about, and something that really stuck out to me was when mossy described everyone as people and the people we will be working with have just had a hard start in life but they have taken a opportune moment in time to change that.

However being complete strangers to the members of kairos it didn't sease to amaze me how honest they were, as I myself wouldn't feel comfortable telling my darkest moments to a stranger let alone a room full. This therefore changed my perception of people and gave me full and the up most respect for the community we will be working with.

Preperation before first workshop:

before we go to the centre we have devised our own exercises to help everyone bond with eachother so we all feel comfertable to work with eachother this technique is one taken from Augusto Boal.

the exercise we have created is a recreation of the childhood game dodge ball which is adaptable for different capabilities.

our original format for the game is to play it on our knees rolling the ball at the oposing team, if the ball touches them then they are out and have to sit cross leged behind the oposing team where they have a chance to catch the ball to rejoin the game. But if the opposing team catch the ball when its being thrown to the sitting participants they are illimnated and have to join the siting and try and rejoin the game.
As the game only lasts for 5 mins the objective is to have the most team members on your side.

addaptations we have of the game are to have people on chairs where team members aim for their opponents knees and have to swivel on their chairs to dodge.

the game we have created incorperates teamwork, movment and concentration all aspects we need to have when working together as a company.

WELCOME!

Hello and welcome to my term 5 blog following my community arts project where a group of us will be working in a drug rehabilitation centre in Dulich.
Looking at practitioner Augusto B we will be creating a promenade peice based around true accounts and stories of the people living and working with the centre.
